The Municipality is composed of a deliberative body, which is the Municipal Assembly and an executive body of the municipality, the City Hall.
The City Hall is responsible for the day-to-day management and planning of the direction of the municipality.
It is a collegial body, usually designated as a municipal executive, composed of a president and a variable number of councilmen, which can vary between 4 and 16, being determined according to article 57 of Law 169/99, of 18/09 (which remained in force in this matter), by the number of voters of the county.
The President can delegate powers to the councilors and assign them areas of action.
Regarding the municipality of Belmonte, the Executive is constituted by the President, Vice-President and Alderman elected by the PS and two other Aldermen elected by the PSD / MPT party coalition.
The powers of the City Hall are enshrined in the Law of Local Authorities, which establishes the legal regime of local authorities.
